Ari and I got the chance to squeeze in a board game this Sunday before his bed time, and we chose to try Game of Trains.
Game of Trains is card game whereby you each player starts with a tableau of 7 random cards that are arranged in descending order relative to your train engine. Your job is to manipulate the cards through card draws and card powers to arrange them in ascending order.

A turn consists of either drawing a card then replacing that card with one on your train resulting in a discarded face-up card for all to use *or* using the special power on one of the discarded cards and then permanently discarding the selected card. On each card, there are special powers that allow you to manipulate the position of the cards on your train. Special powers include: card shifting, card swapping, and card removal for all players. If there are ever two identical powers in the center, the both cards are discarded

Game of Trains was an interesting spin on the sorting and special power mechanisms. I couldn’t help to think this was a mashup of Rack-O and Guillotine. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough there to keep either of our attentions. Maybe there wasn’t enough going on for two players. I will give this game another whirl with adult players and see how it goes.
